Caroline Windham
Name: Caroline Windham
High School: Landmark Christian School
College (Current or Future): University of Georgia
Major/Intended Major: B.A. in Journalism
Financial Aid Program: Zell Miller Scholarship
There were only 60 people in Caroline Windham’s graduating class at Landmark Christian School and according to the Peachtree City native, Georgia’s financial aid programs were “heavily promoted (by my school).”
“There were many reasons for (students like me) to explore what it was about,” Windham said, “which I was really grateful for.”
Many of Windham’s family either graduated from or currently attend the University of Georgia, making the choice of which school to attend an easy decision.
“My grandfather played basketball here in between his military service. My day and uncle both graduated from Terry College,” Windham said to UGA Today. “My sister is about to start her sophomore year and two cousins both transferred in this past fall. To say it lightly, UGA is definitely a family affair!”
Windham was able to lighten the financial burden on her family when she earned the Zell Miller Scholarship out of high school, then used the HOPE Scholarship while finishing her degree in Journalism from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
“By having those scholarships, I was able to look at my possibilities and really assess what was best for me,” Windham said. “It really opened the door to pursue a graduate degree.”
Behind that door was a personal aspiration - to work with different companies and brands as a content creator/analytics specialist. That mindset fit perfectly with Grady College’s recently created Emerging Media master’s concentration.
“I’m committed to pursuing my purpose of loving people and making them feel accepted,” Windham said. “That’s what drives me and I am passionate about doing that through media and connecting people.”
Windham is happy that the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships allowed her to pursue her dreams with an open mind, advice she wants to impart to all Georgians.
“I never even dreamed I would be where I am today or be the person I've become,” Windham said, “and I attribute that to deciding to do things outside of my comfort zone and it definitely paid off.”
