Pay attention to the deadlines! There are federal and state deadlines, and your colleges may also have a deadline.
The following deadline is for the 2022-23 school year.
FAFSA on the Web application became available on October 1, 2021 and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time on June 30, 2023. State deadlines may be earlier than the federal deadline and do not replace filling out the FAFSA.

College Financial Aid Deadline - Check with the college(s) you are interested in attending.
Many colleges have Priority Consideration Deadlines which is typically posted on their financial aid webpage. Some of the need-based federal aid (aid reserved for low-income students) has a limited amount of funds available to each institution.
The Priority Consideration Deadline is the estimated date the money will have been allocated to other eligible students. It is important to apply early, regardless if you know or feel you might be eligible. Don’t waste time and miss out on additional funds to pay for your education.
