Frequently Asked Questions
GEORGIA MATCH is a simple way for you to know where you are eligible for admission (to be admitted to college), based on your high school calculated HOPE grade point average (GPA) through 11th grade. We want to make it easy for you to see where you could attend college in Georgia based on your current academic record and to apply to institutions you are most interested in attending! You will still need to submit an application, but that will be easy – keep reading to learn how! Your GEORGIA MATCH colleges are on your GAfutures Student Dashboard.
Note: GEORGIA MATCH works with public and private accredited high schools in Georgia.
DISCLAIMER: The colleges and universities listed on the student’s GEORGIA MATCH letter or Dashboard represent a provisional acceptance only and does not guarantee acceptance to a college or university or a specific major/program of study. An official admissions status is determined by the college or university using their admission criteria and the student’s final transcript and high school graduation status.
Many of Georgia’s public institutions of higher education offer admissions based solely on your academic record. The institutions on your list were selected based on your high school submitting your transcript data after 11th grade so an underclass HOPE GPA could be calculated by mid-September 2024.
You will still need to submit an admissions application, but that will be easy – keep reading to learn how!
A senior may not have received a letter in October because the 11th grade transcript record submitted securely by the high school did not include a USPS deliverable address or a calculated HOPE GPA.
In your GEORGIA MATCH Dashboard you can print your GEORGIA MATCH letter, see the list of institutions where you meet provisional acceptance, and you can “Request Information” and "Claim Your Spot”. To see if you have access to the GEORGIA MATCH Dashboard, sign in or create a GAfutures account. Once signed in you will see the GEORGIA MATCH Dashboard at the top of the page. If you do not see the dashboard, make sure your Profile includes your correct name and social security number. If your Profile information is correct, and you are not able to view your GEORGIA MATCH Dashboard, it means that GSFC did not receive your transcript record from the high school.
High School Seniors that do not receive a GEORGIA MATCH letter can still apply for admission to any Georgia college or university and enroll the fall term following their high school graduation in spring. You have options for new opportunities.
Note: You must be a senior at one of Georgia's public or private accredited high schools that works with GAfutures.
If you are interested in a college or university within Georgia that is not on your list, you may still apply to that college! You can use the GAfutures’ College Search to learn more about colleges in Georgia and to apply to an individual college or university.
No, GEORGIA MATCH looks to see if you meet the initial eligibility for admission at USG Colleges and Universities. Upon completion of the full application, submission of your high school transcript, and test scores (if required) the USG College or University will review the submitted information to ensure you have met the Required High School Curriculum (including Foreign Language) and standardized test scores if needed. Participating GEORGIA MATCH Institutions will make every effort to allow students to make up missing requirements.
Georgia College & State University, Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Georgia conduct a holistic review of applications, which means they review applicant’s academic record in addition to unique experiences through activities outside of the classroom and personal essays. The Dashboard includes your GEORGIA MATCH information with the "Request Information” and “Claim Your Spot” options. - Student Name
- Address

- Most recent transcript GAfutures has (if requested by student)
The big advantage: A spot is being saved for you using your GEORGIA MATCH letter! Now you can use the GAfutures website to make applying easier. You press “Claim Your Spot” and you wait until the college sends you additional information!
Keep in mind, you may only use the “Claim Your Spot” option for three (3) institutions. Before claiming your spot, you may want to research the colleges in more detail to see if that is the college for you. All the Georgia colleges and universities are listed on GAfutures under the College Search feature.
Some institutions have an admission application fee. Most colleges waive their application fees in November and March during Apply to College Month. Be sure to take advantage of submitting your applications during those months! More information about Apply to College Month will be on GAfutures.
We want you to apply now! The colleges on your GEORGIA MATCH letter and your GAfutures GEORGIA MATCH Student Dashboard want to communicate with you now. The GEORGIA MATCH letter allows students to claim their spot only for Fall term of 2025.
Georgia offers a variety of ways to help you pay for college, and there are also federal sources of financial aid. We know the financial aid application process can be overwhelming, but we can help.
The first step in getting help paying for college is completing the Georgia Student Finance Application (GSFAPP) and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once completed the Financial Aid Office will review your applications to see what type of federal and state aid you qualify for. There are two types of student aid. Gift Aid is scholarships and grants that do not have to be repaid. Examples of Gift Aid are the Federal Pell Grant and the HOPE Scholarship. Self Help Aid are loans and work study that require cash repayment or for you to work while you are in school.
Need help completing the GSFAPP or FAFSA? Financial Aid events for students and parents happen throughout the state regularly – check out this calendar for dates, times, and locations. If you don’t see a session in your area, GAfutures’ Outreach Representatives are available for one-on-one sessions.
You can view your Calculated HOPE GPA and any test scores that GSFC has on your GAfutures Student Dashboard – My High School HOPE GPA.
Note: the HOPE GPA calculation is used for the Zell Miller Scholarship academic eligibility as well.
Most students do not know exactly what they want to study in college. In many ways, college is there for you to figure out what interests you the most and what you can do for your career. You may have already taken an aptitude assessment like YouScience. These assessments can provide valuable information about your interests and skillsets. In the Resources tab above are some helpful tools that may assist you in identifying areas of interest for you, such as possible majors and career choices. Additionally, the Resources tab includes links to College Search, Scholarship Search, TCSG, USG and Georgia Degrees Pay.
- GEORGIA MATCH is not a guarantee of admission to any of the colleges; you must still apply for admission and provide your final official high school transcript after graduation to the institution(s) of your choice.
- GEORGIA MATCH does not mean you automatically qualify for the HOPE or Zell Miller scholarships and grants; you must still meet the program requirements and apply. Complete the GSFAPP or FAFSA then the Financial Aid Office of the college you claim your spot with will determine your eligibility.
- If your final calculated HOPE GPA (at the time of graduation) is lower than what it was at the time of the GEORGIA MATCH letter, your options for admission may change.
- If required for admissions, test scores must be submitted to the admissions office of the college or university you are applying for admissions.
