Eligibility for the Georgia Public Service Memorial Grant
To be eligible for the Public Safety Memorial Grant, a student must:
- Be the Spouse or child of a Georgia Public Safety Officer who was permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty; and
- Be the Spouse or child of a Georgia Public School Employee who was killed or permanently disabled due to an Act of Violence while performing employment duties; and
- The Spouse must have been married to the Public School Employee at the time of the Act of Violence (qualifying event)
- Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) of eligible permanent resident alien status; and
- Be a legal resident of Georgia 12 months prior to receiving aid; and
- Be enrolled in a Georgia public or private college, university or technical college as a undergraduate or Graduate student seeking a college degree or technical certificate/diploma; and
- Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements; and
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college; and
- Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990; and
- Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program.
